Want to produce music but can't afford Ableton or Logic?

MIRAJA - Posted on 20 November 2009

I am a huge fan of Ableton and Logic but we all know that they are pricey pieces of software. If you are serious about learning to produce music and you can afford a high end digital workstation, then by all means go for the gold. But don't let an empty wallet keep you from living out your dream as a music producer.

There are several digital audio workstations available for free or almost free that are definitely worth checking out.

There are also tons of free VSTs, soundbanks and other plugins out there you just have to look for them. (Free Plugins)

Here are a few of some popular free or almost free digital workstations:

1.(MAC/PC) REAPER: http://www.cockos.com/reaper/index.php

2. (MAC) ARDOUR: http://ardour.org

3. (LINUX) ROSEGARDEN: http://www.rosegardenmusic.com

You will most likely also need a program for editing wav/aiff/mp3 files.

Check out these free wav editors:

1. (MAC/PC/LINUX) AUDACITY: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download

2. (MAC) WAVEPAD: http://www.nch.com.au/wavepad/index.html

I am sure there are many more free applications out there for making music with your computer. Ya just gotta dig!

Please feel free to leave any other free workstation suggestions in the comment section below or suggest other free plugins HERE

Good luck and happy producing!
