Jonathan Crandall is a well-rounded performer of Object Manipulation Arts, and will tell you that the road was far from easy. In 2005 Jonathan knew his destiny when he gazed at fantastic fire dancers for the first time. “I just knew that was what I wanted to do! I practiced constantly!” He later recalls, and it was less than a year after when he was fire dancing for audiences in awe, performing with Fire Poi—fluidly and effortlessly! Jon, already familiar with clowning, ball juggling, and other performance, became heavily submersed in the Movement Art of Poi, which opened up more roads for him. He soon began to teach himself other types of Object Manipulation; He became fascinated with the complicated techniques and language of club juggling, and then later taught himself the mystical art of Contact Juggling. You can know spot Jonathan waltzing the streets of Albuquerque, New Mexico—spinning poi while strolling the sidewalk one day, and juggling clubs another day; Inquire further as to what is in his many pocket sachels, and he just may show you a trick or two!
Bonnie Claire discovered the joy of hooping two years ago. She quickly learned that hooping, incorporated with dance, is a beautiful manifestation of self-expression, which enables her to be completely free. According to her, “Hooping is a form of meditation which requires one to have a clear mind, exist in the present, and see each moment as an opportunity for change.”
Bonnie Claire has always believed that self-expression is extremely important to one’s well-being, and that it plays a key role in the process of healing. Through her activities as both a hoop-dancer and visual artist, she continues to push herself and inspire others by being a positive role model and an encouraging performer.
Bonnie Claire is a member of the New Mexico based Ritzy Rouge Hoop Troupe. Ritzy Rouge is involved in community outreach and often performs for the City of Albuquerque. She is a performer with Acid In The Sand, a collaboration project between Hipnotic Star of Centerforce Entertainment (CA) and Adrack of Open Circuit Recordings and FamilyMoons (NM). 2010 marked the beginning of her relationship with Family Moons, an Artist Collective based in New Mexico, Colorado, and California.
Bonnie Claire has performed with various electronic music artists such as: Scratch-D of Dynamix II, James Wolfe, Glitch Mob, and local favorites such as Jai Riddim and Adrack. She recently performed with Belly Dance Superstars, Zoe Jakes and Elizabeth Strong.
Miss Alaska is a ruffle loving, circus following, fire spinning, hula hooping, tiny hat wearing, tutu prancing, and ever pondering craftacular extraodanaire, who dreams away with her snugglie monster kitten, magic bunny, and her ever-supportive circus performer dream man in the booming desert town of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Nestled down in her hustling and bustling sewing hide-away, she loses countless hours of sleep racking her wee little noggin about future craft projects. No hobby lobby cart nor credit card is gargantuan enough to feed her ferocious appetite for creating, and she wonders why her other day job doesn't give PCTO ("Paid-Crafting-Time-Off"). Sigh...
Alaska is part of The Ritzy Rouge Hoop Troupe, a performance group that is innovating a new dance style that incorporates aspects of Improvisationl Tribal Belly Dance and hoop dance. Hooping Improvisational Tribal Style (HITS), Alaska's brainchild, is an emerging arena of dance that fuses and incorporates aspects of ITS Belly Dance and Hula Hooping to create a fresh, fun, and energizing menagerie of group performance art! With the love and drive of Tribal Style Belly Dance, HITS is an inspirational and fun activity that anyone can learn! Like ATS and its sister sprouts, HITS utilizes group formations, flowing transitions, and cues from a leader to create a new blooming dance in the ever growing garden of the Hooping world. Adding the Hoop as a prop and tool to work with and grow upon, new moves and combinations are born all the time, as this dance develops and expands upon itself.
Alaska and the Ritzy gals help fill the round void in the Hooping community of Albuquerque, and have a community Hoop Day that meets at Bataan Park( near the Walgreens on Carlisle and Lomas) every Sunday at 11am. So come on by and play!
